Two popular wellness programs, yoga and tai chi, are back at the Mattatuck Museum for another year. Yoga in the Galleries takes place every Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m. and Tai Chi is held Wednesday mornings at 10:00 a.m.
Taught by a rotating schedule of certified local yoga instructors, the Museum’s yoga classes are open to all levels and especially designed for beginner yogis. Find a calm mind and a strengthened body with a flowing yoga class set amid the idyllic environment of our Early American art collection. Bring your own mat and wear comfortable clothing.
Additionally, try a Tai Chi class where you will move and groove to music with our certified instructor Joe Atkins. Tai Chi will help improve your balance, increase flexibility and mobility, reduce stiffness, and soreness. Participants will learn to find energy and stamina through breathing techniques. Wear comfortable clothing.
Both programs are $8 for Museum members, $12 for non-members and $3 for BRASS members.
The MATT us also introducing two new wellness programs: Hands-On Drumming and Knitting 101 Plus. Hands-On Drumming with instructor Craig Norton will lead participants for a few hours of musical merriment in one of the galleries at The MATT. Drumming will take place on Friday, February 17 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and the cost is $8 for members, $12 for non-members and $3 for BRASS members. Knitting 101 Plus is a four-week session led by Judy Pascale where knitters with some experience, as well as true novices, can learn or enhance skills creating a reversible knitted cowl. Knitting will be held on Tuesdays; March 7, 14, 21, 28; from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Cost is $65 for members, $85 for non-members and $50 for BRASS members.

The Mattatuck Museum is operated with support from the Connecticut Department of Economic & Community Development/CT Office of the Arts, which also receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, and is a member of the Connecticut Art Trail, a group of 18 world-class museums and historic sites (arttrail.org). Located on the green in Waterbury, CT at 144 West Main Street, the Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. Convenient, free parking is located behind the Museum in the lots on Park Place.
