Come bake special biscuits at Hill-Stead!
In honor of Annie Fisher, a pioneer featured in our new exhibition, Born in 1867: Theodate’s Generation, who built a biscuit-making empire at a time when women were not given such opportunities, we are thrilled to host – just in time for the holidays – a biscuit making class led by Lori Pennito. We will roll up our sleeves and fashion all kinds of biscuit dreams: sweet and savory, drop and roll. While they bake, we’ll snuggle up with hot cocoa and popcorn to watch the show about another of the extraordinary entrepreneurs in the exhibition, Madam CJ Walker, the first female self-made millionaire in this country!
All ingredients will be provided and you will get to take home the biscuits you make along with Annie’s original recipe. As a bonus, you will also get to take home a small jar of the homemade The Tavern’s Finest Mixed Berry Jam, courtesy of Hill-Stead’s President of the Board, Lavell Thompson.

They do not conflict…” —Isamu Noguchi While the renowned sculptor Isamu Noguchi (1904–1988) is best known for his work in stone, he consistently explored new materials and methods during his wide-ranging career.
