Celebrate Grandparents’ Day at the Museum this year to enjoy fun and innovation for all ages! With activities inspired by the exhibition Samuel F.B. Morse’s “Gallery of the Louvre” & the Art of Invention, visitors can explore connections between art, science, and technology.
In 2010, Morse’s monumental painting underwent an extensive conservation process in the Connecticut studio of Lance Mayer and Gay Myers. During Grandparents’ Day, the Museum will provide visitors with in-gallery self guided activities that focus on conservation, including a screening of the documentary following the painting’s conservation, A New Look: Samuel F.B. Morse and the Gallery of the Louvre (30 min.), in Stanley Works Center.
Also, although a successful American painter, Morse was primarily known for his role in the development of the electromagnetic telegraph and his namesake code. Teaching artist Lindsay Behrens will help visitors unlock their inner inventor by urging them to re-imagine uses for unconventional materials and explore relationships between art and science during an hour-long hands-on workshop.
