The Lowdown on Lowbrow: West Coast Pop Art at NBMAA

Called Lowbrow by its practitioners and Pop Surrealism by art critics, this style of art is influenced by comic books, B-movies, rock and roll, surfing, classic cars, and Cold War imagery. Through interviews with Lowbrow pioneer Robert Williams and other artists, authors, and curators, this film presents the evolution of this unconventional artistic movement, its relationship to Abstract Expressionism, and the rise of female artists to its forefront.
