Join us for this virtual lecture, which will put into historical and societal context some works on view in the Lyman Allyn Art Museum’s newest exhibition Memories & Inspiration: The Kerry and C. Betty Davis Collection of African American Art. Dr. David Canton, Director of African American Studies Program and Associate Professor of History at the University of Florida, will discuss the long history and nexus between black art and politics. He will also address the significance of how “an ordinary couple,” Kerry Davis, a letter carrier, and his wife, Betty, a television news producer in Atlanta, Georgia, assembled this collection of vivid artworks that are both resonant and remarkably personal.
This lecture is free, but registration is required.
