An Evening With…

Gay Myers and Lance Mayer, A Painting Full of Surprises: The Conservation of Morse’s “Gallery of the Louvre”

Thursday, September 14, 2017

Spend an evening with Gay Myers and Lance Mayer, independent conservators based in New London, CT, for a discussion about their extensive conservation of Samuel F.B. Morse’s Gallery of the Louvre (on view in the Davis Gallery June 17–October 15, 2017) in 2010. After agreeing to take on the painting’s treatment, the conservators quickly learned that this project was unusual and complex, as the techniques used by 19th-century American painters greatly limited future conservation.

5:30 PM Reception

6:00 PM Lecture
