MONDAY, AUGUST 28 THROUGH FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 1
10AM – 4PM, 5-DAY WORKSHOP
In this class participants will make art using a variety of pulps to create their own hand made paper. Rather than producing many single sheets, the emphasis will be on combining and altering pulps to build up rich papers. Stencil use and certain inclusions will be employed for layering imagery and design.
JENNIFER DAVIES graduated from Rhode Island School of Design and spent a year in Rome as part of the European Honors Program. Trained as a painter/illustrator, she now works with Japanese pulp, kozo or gampi, that she processes herself. She dips weavings into the pulp slurry to make lacy webs and also makes translucent sheets that she overlaps and sews together.
She has studied papermaking at Women’s Studio Workshop and taught in local art schools. Solo shows have been at City Gallery, in New Haven, and The Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking in Atlanta, Georgia, among others. In addition to many group shows in the Northeast, her work has been included in traveling exhibits such as Fiberart International, and The Paper Runway. She is a member of City Gallery; a co-operative gallery in New Haven, The Friends of Dard Hunter; a group devoted to hand papermaking, Fiber Artists Collective, and Surface Design. In 2012 she was awarded a Connecticut Artist Fellowship Grant to further her opportunities and experience in the field of Fiber. Visit Jennifer at www.jenniferdavieshmp.com
