New Zenith Theatre brings Steve Martin’s Picasso at the Lapin Agile to the Mattatuck Museum for a special stage reading on Friday July 21st at 6:30pm. The play, Martin’s first comedy for the stage, became a long running Off Broadway hit and winner of the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Play. We meet Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso in a Parisian cafe in 1904, just before the renowned scientist transformed physics with his theory of relativity and the celebrated painter set the art world afire with cubism. Martin plays fast and loose with fact, fame, and fortune as these two geniuses muse on the century’s achievements and prospects, as well as other fanciful topics with infectious dizziness. The New Zenith Theatre’s Acting Company includes Steve Kalpin, Sergio Rodriguez, Christopher Stokes, Theresa MacDonald, Maria Franco, Douglas Thomas Sobon and Steven Parlatto.

Isamu Noguchi: Metal the Mirror

“Here is where finally opposites come together, I see a surprising purity. Stone is the depth, metal the mirror. They do not conflict…” —Isamu Noguchi While the renowned sculptor Isamu Noguchi (1904–1988) is best known for his work in stone, he consistently explored new materials and methods during his wide-ranging career.
