Young musicians (ages 13–17) will be amazed at what they can perform at the end of this five-day program, with the mentorship of teaching artist Ed Fast. Participants will play as part of a group, compose songs, and expand musically—exploring a wide variety of music, including Afro-Cuban music and jazz. Participants are encouraged to bring their instruments and will also have the opportunity to play drums, hand percussion, and marimba. The week culminates with a performance at AMP on Friday, August 4. 

A successful working artist, Ed Fast has played on Broadway, in the symphony, in clubs, and on the worldwide stage. Ed knows what it takes to flourish in the industry and has a gift for sharing his expertise with young musicians, helping to expand their musical horizons. In this five-day program, teens will:

  • Be immersed in a rich, musical setting from which to create.
  • Be mentored by a professional working musician..
  • Experience both creative freedom and structure to find their musical stride.
  • Sharpen the aural skills critical to music success.
  • Experience the excitement of group collaboration—and develop musical rapport.
  • Dive into songwriting.
  • Perform original songs.
  • Experiment with percussion and rhythm.
  • Develop techniques and improvisation skills.
  • Be part of a musical ensemble.
  • Stretch! Discover latent talents and do things they didn’t know they could.

No experience is necessary, and no audition is required. This is a small-group program led by teaching artist Ed Fast. Space is limited.

Inspired by our sculpture gallery, museum visitors and participants will make their own sculptures Art Adventures is a drop-in program designed for children aged 4 and up and their families.
