Masterclass Poetry Workshop: Jericho Brown @ The Aldrich @ The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum

Poet Jericho Brown, an American Book Award Winner, will host a masterclass workshop in The Studio leading up to an evening reading event.

“There are countless poets of the body, but the body in Brown’s poetry serves as a nexus of the corporeal and conceptual. The ‘body’ of his work isn’t just a physical, individual one; it’s a stand-in for various (flawed) institutions of power and belief: national history, religion, mythology, the justice system.” —The New York Times

Jericho Brown is the recipient of fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard, and the National Endowment for the Arts, and he is the winner of the Whiting Writer’s Award. Brown’s first book, Please(New Issues 2008), won the American Book Award. His second book, The New Testament(Copper Canyon 2014), won the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award. His third collection is The Tradition(Copper Canyon 2019). His poems have appeared in The Bennington Review,Buzzfeed, Fence, jubilat, The New Republic, The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Paris Review, TIME magazine, and several volumes ofThe Best American Poetry. He is an associate professor and the director of the Creative Writing Program at Emory University.

Aldrich Uncorked: Drink & Draw @ The Aldrich @ The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum

If you have not joined us for our Aldrich Uncorked series, this is a great place to start. This beginner class will explore the basics of drawing the figure with artist and Aldrich Educator Noah Fox. Grab a glass of wine, draw inspiration from a live nude model, and experiment with a variety of materials such as charcoal, oil pastel, and graphite sticks. Feel free to bring your own materials; no prior drawing experience necessary!

Open Studios: Mini Sculpture Gardens @ The Aldrich @ The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum

Help us say goodbye to our current outdoor sculptures and welcome new works in a workshop celebrating our Sculpture Garden! Participants will create their own mini landscapes and sculptures using an assortment of surprising materials.

Sip a glass of wine and join us to explore the basics of figure drawing in this fun and theatrical drawing session. Be inspired by Mercedes, our figure model extraordinaire, who will be in full costume, and experiment with a variety of provided materials such as charcoal, oil pastel, and graphite. Feel free to bring your own materials; no prior drawing experience necessary!

Artist Workshop: Kite-Making with Zoë Sheehan Saldaña @ The Aldrich @ The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum

Join us for an artist workshop for participants of all ages with exhibiting artist Zoë Sheehan Saldaña. Sheehan will share kite-making techniques and lead the group in creating their own individual kites for flying! We invite the community to share their own kite-making traditions. Materials will be provided.

Weather permitting, we will be flying our kites outside in the Sculpture Garden.

An Aldrich Education will lead a tour of Weather Report. Appropriate for all ages, this tour will travel throughout the galleries, investigate key works of art, and invite conversations and observations.
