A Children’s Holiday Tour
December 5th, Saturday, 11:00am
A special holiday tour just for children will be offered during Hill-Stead Museum’s Holiday Boutique. Shop for unique and hand-made gifts while your children (or grandchildren) tour the historic house with museum guides. Email Kate Ebner at [email protected] or call 860.677.4787 x 142 to reserve a place. Open to children ages 6 – 12 years. Free with a Family/Grandparent membership or children’s museum admission.
Hill-Stead’s Holiday Party
December 10th, Thursday, 6:00-9:00pm
Hill-Stead’s members, donors, and their guests are invited to toast the holidays at Hill-Stead and enjoy its seasonal splendor! View decorated period rooms, enjoy festive music, and chat with costumed interpreters. Hearty hors d’oeuvres and wine will be served in the historic Makeshift Theater, decorated with holiday finery fit for the occasion. For members, donors, and their guests. Tickets will be available online in early November.
Children’s Education Station
ON-GOING, Tuesdays-Sundays, 10:00am-4:00pm
Hill-Stead is the perfect destination for kid-sized leaf-peepers and nature lovers. Celebrate the season with new Education Station activities: sketch a tree, grab a clip-board and art supplies, or make a “tree-cookie” necklace with wood and yarn. Or, use the ever-popular poetry prompts, coloring supplies and ready-to-roam backpacks (complete with binoculars, bug finders, and much more)! Free with admission or membership.

Theodate’s Boys: Gordon, Donald and Paul

One of Theodate’s adolescent dreams (or “air castles” as she called them) was to raise an orphaned child. As it turned out she took in three boys, two of whom lived to adulthood. Learn about Theodate’s Boys and a little known facet of her life—her role as “mom.”
Kids Activity: What Does Your Family Look Like?

What does your family look like? We will learn more about Hill-Stead families as we look at old photographs. Then we will take new photographs of each other and celebrate our families. Children will make frames and take home their photo. RSVP required; meet in the Carriage Porch at 1pm.

Travel back in time to Christmas 1908. Tour guides dressed in vintage attire portray family members and friends while re-enacting a holiday season at Hill-Stead. Free with membership or museum admission.
