about

The Greens at Greenwich and the Bruce Museum present the final 2024 Afternoon of Wellness: Story Telling through Art.

In this final iteration of the 2024 Afternoon of Wellness series, participants will explore the therapeutic benefits of storytelling. Using the exhibition “Joel Sternfeld: American Prospects,” October 3, 2024 – January 5, 2025, for inspiration, participants will be guided by Creative Arts Therapist Maria Scaros to explore the aspects of their personal story, as found within Sternfeld’s narrative photos. Through this process participants will discover commonalities and share the story telling experience.

Through research, we know that engaging in the storytelling process – both as teller and listener – increases oxytocin and decreases cortisol; storytelling increases positive feelings and connections. Participants will experience these positive effects, and more in this engaging workshop. It will be facilitated by Creative Arts Therapist Maria Scaros and Museum Educator Corinne Flax.

What to expect from this Story Telling Session.

Be prepared to engage in a communal narrative building process and share your story with the group. Participants will spend roughly 90 minutes in the exhibition, followed by light refreshments and a follow-up conversation unpacking the storytelling experience.
